As a contemporary artist, storytelling is a compelling form of our culture and is a means to show an existence beyond our comprehension. When I was growing up I was always told stories of my heritage and emergence by exemplifying who we are and where we come from as Naabeeho (Navajos). The aspects of our history gives us a sense of belonging. These stories are better perceived through tangible mediums than spoken .My art epitomizes my strength, heritage and personality. The narrative aspects hidden through my paintings does not give us the fullness of a story, but merely single scenes. When I take scenes out of the situation, we are left to fill in the gaps. And that’s what makes it unique, every interpretation of the scene will be distinctive to every person to their own. Allowing them into my paintings to complete the stories. Growing up I had no intensions of becoming an artist, my life always revolved around sports, and that’s what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. But my first year in community college had other plans, not only had I picked up my first brush, but also enrolled into my first painting class. It was there when I decided to commence on this painting journey. That unforgettable smell when it comes out of the tube, the scratching sound of the canvas when the bristles brush the gesso. And most of all, the music. There isn’t anything like it. It acts like a link to my soul, giving it a chance to express itself with full of color and stories. A lot of pros and cons to that though, some people say it’s not really my work, it’s the music work. For all we know they could be right, but I will live my whole life to music. Secretly my art acts as an advocator, for everyone and anyone; that art is art. If you call it art, then its art. Nobody can tell you it’s not.
